Imphal, June 13, 2022: With the aim to facilitate top class hospitality studies, the tourism department on Monday launched the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM), Manipur at City Convention Centre during the 100-day action point programme. Chief Minister N Biren launched the SIHM in the presence of his council of ministers and senior officials of the state government. The SIHM will be immediately operational on temporary basis from the office of the Directorate of Tourism pending completion of its permanent campus in Nongmaiching, Imphal East. Spread across 5.1 acres of land surrounded by the bounty of nature, the SIHM Manipur will host a warm and lively campus for all the students aspiring for a career in the hotel and hospitality sector. The State Institute of Hotel & Hospitality Management will offer diploma, bachelor’s and master’s degree in hotel & hospitably administration with specialisation in various subjects like food & beverage; hotel & hospitality-human resource; travel & tourism; hotel & hospitality; culinary arts & catering technology – food production operations housekeeping; bakery & confectionery; front office operations; hotel & hospitality-sales & marketing. With 480 seats in both degree & diploma programmes for the new academic session, SIHM Manipur intends to combine the very best elements of first class and international academic content with technique-based sessions for its students. In his address, chief minister Biren said, “I am immensely happy that the Department of Tourism could conceptualise a project that will go a long way in strengthening our cultural significance and present it to the world. For decades the youth’of our state had to look outside the region for opportunities, however, with this project in place, our youths can now hone their skills at home”. The SIHM is an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and undertaken by-the Department of Tourism, Manipur. Jettwings Group of Institutes under its promoting company Infovalley Educational and Research (P) Ltd in partnership with Department of Tourism has collaborated to establish, run and operate all functions of SHIM-Manipur in PPP module for harnessing skills among youths in hospitality segment with international standards and intends to co-create a workforce to promote and popularize eastern hospitality to an international platform. In his address, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar said: “The Government of Manipur feels that it can’t alienate itself from empowering the youth to take up careers in new and emerging sectors and have to Integrate the evolving trends to offer youths of our state a competitive edge. The SIHM Manipur can surely create a workforce to meet modern industry demand in terms of skills in Hospitality & Tourism sector”. With two decades of experience and expertise in skill training in hospitality sector, the PPP partner, Jettwings group intends to develop SIHM Manipur into one of the most sought after SIHMs of India. Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Aditya Singh, chairman of Jettwings conveyed that with a view to empower the youth with skill training in hotel & hospitality management, it initiated the SIHM where a diverse range of courses in the service, sector will be made accessible to young aspirants.
