State Institute Of Hotel Management, Catering Technology And Applied Nutrition In Manipur Launched

The Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur has announced the launch of State Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition (SIHM) in Imphal. The launch was done by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh in the presence of his Council of Ministers and senior officials.

SIHM Manipur is an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur, all set up to run & operate. This project has been taken up with a view to harness the skills among the youth in the hospitality sector with international standards. The intention is to co-create a workforce to promote and popularize Eastern Hospitality on an international platform.

Spread across 5.1 acres of land surrounded by the bounties of nature in Nongmaiching, Imphal East, SIHM Manipur will host a warm and lively campus for all the students aspiring for a career in the Hotel & Hospitality sector. With this project in place, Jettwings is committed to leverage on the State’s human capital through advanced sectorial training of international standard and promote tourism.

The State Institute of Hotel & Hospitality Management shall offer Diploma, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Hotel & Hospitality Administration with Specialization in various subjects like Food & Beverage; Hotel & Hospitality-Human Resource; Travel & Tourism; Hotel and Hospitality; Culinary Arts &Catering Technology-Food Production Operations; Housekeeping; Bakery & Confectionery; Front Office Operations; Hotel & Hospitality-Sales & Marketing. With 480 Seats in both Degree & Diploma programs for the new academic session, SIHM Manipur intends to combine the very best elements of first class international academic content with technique-based sessions for its students.

Bakery and Confectionery; 10. Front Office Operations; 11. Hotels and Hospitality; 12. Sales and Marketing.

Speaking about the importance of SIHM, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said, “I am extremely glad that the tourism department can conceptualize a project that will go a long way in strengthening our cultural significance and presenting it to the world. For decades the youth of our state had to look outside the region for opportunities, however, with this project, our youth can now hone their skills at home.

SIHM Manipur is being crafted to act as the most sought after SIHMs of India. Speaking on the occasion the Chairman of the institute, said, “The institute is ready to operate and our mission will be to discover, preserve and disseminate knowledge; to educate the next generation of students, and across SIHM and beyond, and to cultivate a wider culture of inquiry beyond that. With a vision to empower our youth with skill training in Hotel and Hospitality Management, we have started SIHM, where a wide variety of courses in the service sector are offered to young aspirants.”

Currently, the hospitality industry faces several talent gaps, especially in areas where tourism is developing faster than the resources to train professional hospitality managers. SIHM Manipur aims at making available sufficient academic and practical knowledge to the students to be able to meet the standards required by the industry.
